Easy autumn bedroom makeovers
When the temperature’s dropping and the Ugg boots are being pulled on, you know it’s time to turn your bedroom into an extra-cosy haven to snuggle into. From layering textures to mood lighting, there are plenty of simple ways to update your bedroom without breaking the bank. Here are a few ways to make your bedroom even warmer and more welcoming for autumn while incorporating some of the season’s latest interior trends.

Maximalist beds
Making your bed look and feel as fluffy as a cloud with piles of pillows and layers of blankets can instantly add warmth and comfort to your bedroom. Layer your bed with different textures such as wool throw rugs, chunky knitted cushions and on-trend boucle throws for a bed that feels as good as it looks. Check out our five step guide to layering a bed like a stylist for the ultimate Insta-worthy bed!
Moodier bedding
Gone are the days of all-white bed linen, too. Embrace deeper, richer colours like charcoal, navy, plum, burgundy or chocolate brown for that calming, cocooning feeling.
Bold patterns
Whether it’s botanical and floral prints, or checks and stripes, patterns are only getting bigger and bolder in the bedroom. The Laura Ashley florals associated with the cottagecore trend of previous years are now being overtaken by larger florals, especially Australian botanicals, while checks, stripes and gingham continues to be popular with a focus on clashing colourways. Introducing these patterns through bedding is a great economical way to give your bedroom a makeover as the bed, of course, tends to be the focal point.
Statement bedheads
Draw even more focus to your bed with a unique bedhead. Upholstered bedheads are a great way to add personality, plus they’re super comfy for resting against while reading or streaming. If you’re opting for a coloured bedhead, consider coordinating with a similarly coloured rug, quilt cover or cushions for a cohesive look. Don’t know where to start? Curves and bouclé
Curves, scalloped edging and bouclé continue to make their mark in homes, adding playfulness and cosiness. To introduce the trend for curves and waves into your bedroom, add decor such as arched mirrors, fluted vases or cushions with scalloped edges. To make more impact, introduce round bedside tables, oval or round ottomans or an arch bedhead or end of bed bench. We’re loving this boucle arch bedhead, curvy boucle bench and chunky rounded boucle armchair for working both the curves and tactile texture into spaces. Cosy bedside lighting
Does anyone ever turn on the ceiling lights for mood lighting in the bedroom? We don't think so. To add calm and cosiness to bedrooms, work with multiple light sources instead for warm and soft lighting options. Instead of table lamps, consider matching wall sconces or pendant lights at either side of your bed. Not only can these make a big impact to bedrooms, but they also conveniently leave more room on your bedside table for books and other personals. If you you can’t add wall or ceiling fixtures, consider bedside lamps with smaller lamp shades or lamps with bases made from on-trend terrazzo or sculptural ceramic. Vintage look & natural fibre rugs
Forget bare floors and add a large area rug to make your bedroom look and feel extra warm and welcoming. Rugs are practical for absorbing sound and providing plushness underfoot in cooler months. 2023 will see the rise of vintage look rugs to add a nostalgic feeling to spaces. They’re also classic and versatile and work with so many different interior styles. Natural fibre rugs like hemp, sisal, jute and wool are all also great options for the bedroom for their durability, resistance to dirt and visual appeal.
