How to make your bedroom feel like a luxury hotel suite
Treat yourself to a few hotel perks and check in to your very own luxury suite at home. All that's missing is the 24-hour butler.

Start with a statement bed
Given the bed is likely to be the largest piece of furniture in the bedroom, use it to maximum effect with an oversized bed frame and bedhead. Avoid modern metal frames and opt for upholstered bases with statement bedheads featuring elegant details such as diamond button tufting, metal studs or winged sides. You'll find plenty of these styles when you shop Modern Bedheads and French Provincial Bedheads.
Include cloud-like layers
Invest in goose or duck down quilts and pillows (at least two per person, preferably more); they're more expensive but they're fantastic year-round and you'll luxuriate in its cloud-like softness. Check out our blog posts on how to choose a quilt, doona or duvet and how to pick the perfect pillow to find the bedding that feels five-star to you.
Quality white bed linen all the way
While wrinkled linen in earthy colours is all over your social feeds, it's all about crisp white bed sheets with a 300-plus thread count for the hotel bedroom. Skip the fitted sheet and go for two oversized flat sheets instead. When it comes to your quilt cover, avoid intricate patterns and let the layers take centrestage.
Make your bed like a pro
The bottom flat sheet should be tucked tightly around the mattress using hospital corners, while the top one should be placed upside down, so when you fold over the top edge, you can see the correct side of the sheet. To ensure a crease-free bed: shake your sheet out over the mattress, spritz with water, then tuck in tightly.
Create a lighting scheme
The right lighting is vital for setting the mood in a hotel-style bedroom. A chandelier or pendant light adds personality and interest, and casts a soft light to bring a relaxed atmosphere. If hanging lights aren't your thing, try a pair of bedside lamps in a finish that matches or complements your colour palette, or a pair of wall sconces, fitted with warm-coloured light bulbs in a lower wattage for a cosy feel. Install blockout curtains as well, so you can bask in the darkness of your sanctuary at any time of day.
Create a mini lounge
If you have the space in your bedroom, consider adding a lounging area. Create your very own private reading nook or relaxation space with a plush armchair (or two) and a side table for your morning coffee or evening vino. Make your bed even more of a feature by adding an ottoman bench or blanket box at the end of your bed; it'll also come in handy as a place to store all those accent cushions come bedtime.
