The mood and ambience of an interior space can be changed quite dramatically, especially when all it takes is a coat of paint. I recently had my apartment here in NY painted back to a very soft white grey for the summer months. It was a deep charcoal colour for the winter season, which made it very cosy and cocoon-like. With the gorgeous summer light I felt the desire to really open up the space again and I was quite surprised at the difference. Everything in the apartment suddenly became 'lighter' in a sense as the room gave the appearance of more space even though I hadn't edited anything out. It was a welcome change to refresh not only my space, but also my outlook on life.

Painting your front door is an easy update at the start of any season and delivers great bang for buck. First impressions are important, so make sure your home gets off on the right foot with a glossy new coat of paint. You can afford to be a little bit braver with colour since it's a relatively small area. Murobond's seven front door colours (available online) range from the crisp Just White and the soft breezy blue of Lagoon through the rich, moody depths of Smoked Trout, the treacly tones of Molasses and lichen-encrusted depths of Green Tea to the vibrant cherry blush of Linger and the jewel-like hues of Emerald. Work with the colours already present on the outside of your home and in the garden and you'll be amazed at the joy to be found inside a tin of paint!


Jess painted parts of this chair pink to add zing to bright bedding.Spring is the season of glorious colour and beautiful scent and I love to bring these things into my home with easy DIY projects. Bring some colour into your dining room by replacing one or two of your chairs with old chairs that have been given a new spring outfit. A coat of bright paint will transform a chair and change the feel of the room. Use your existing décor to guide your colour selection. Hardware stores or paint stores will sell sample pots of paint in all the colours of the rainbow for under $20. Sand away old varnish, wipe down dust, apply an undercoat and then your top coat. Finish off the space with a bunch of sweet, blossomy flowers. The scent of jasmine, sweet pea, and jonquil makes me smile and reminds me that summer is only around the corner!
