Dad worked 12-hour night shifts for most of my childhood. I remember the car rolling into the driveway at 7:30 in the morning and seeing him walk through the door. He would sit and watch Agro's Cartoon Connection or played Atari with my brother and I till he fell asleep.

I remember repeating one of his jokes when I was in year 5. Apparently, it was inappropriate so better keep this one to myself!

To cheer me up when I got my tonsils out, Dad bought me my favourite food... chicken (with the skin on). Little did he know, because he doesn't speak English well, that I was not meant to eat solids, so I ended up having to go back to hospital because my throat started bleeding. Oh the joy.

Asian dads don't crack jokes, well, at least not funny ones according to my mum because he just gets yelled at after!

Dad worked across the road from the childcare where I went, and every day, he'd come and have lunch with me. I remember being so sad every time he left.

Me at home on the weekend, cooking lunch together, drinking $5 bottles of wine, eating persimmons and figs, and watching sci-fi movies.
