And the winner is...
Thank you all so much for your comments on the Live, Love & Decorate post! I loved hearing which rooms resonated with you, and there seemed to be a few clear favourites.
The blue and white rooms in the the Punta Mita, Mexico estate appealed to many, perhaps because of their relaxed, holiday feel. Martyn told a story about this project: his client, Joe Francis of Girls Gone Wild fame (or perhaps notoriety) gave him a cheque book with a million dollars to spend on decorating, and said he didn't want to see the property again until it was completely finished, including a refrigerator stocked with food and drinks!
Cher's exotic fantasy interiors also inspired many of you. The bedroom of her LA apartment (co-incidentally in the same building as Elton John and David Furnish's glam LA pad), pictured below, includes a carved wooden frame originally from a palace in Rajasthan, India. In a luxurious twist, Martyn had the arches filled with mirrors - these are also doors to Cher's dressing room. And it wouldn't be LA without a TV - that carved panel you can see at the bottom of the bed opens and a flat screen TV rises up at the push of a button.
As several of you pointed out, all Martyn's rooms tell a story. He describes his role as "making decorative dreams come true" by getting to the essence of what each client wants, then applying his own taste level to create something special. He is not afraid to mix styles and eras or to use use bold colours and patterns, and agrees with Oscar Wilde that "all beautiful things belong to the same age".
I had a terrible time choosing a winner, and rather wish I had more books to give away. The winner this time is ... Anna Williams. Congratulations Anna! We'd love to hear more about the plans for your new office, inspired by Tamara Mellon's luxurious work space.
