Australian Fashion Week 2023 came alive with colour earlier this May. We turned to the runways and the streets outside the Sydney shows to review the colours that will be going from wardrobes into interior spaces this season. Check out the captivating shades for your home this winter, plus find practical tips on how to introduce these colours into your existing decor schemes. 


 

Viva Magenta

Vibrant, joyous and optimistic, Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2023 is already popular in fashion and beauty, but is starting to establish itself in interior and design. Unlike the cotton candy pinks influenced by Barbiecore, Viva Magenta is more edgy and mature. Incorporate the shade through statement pieces such as a velvet accent chair or striking carmine red wall art. If your interiors are quite neutral, introduce pops of it through decor such as cushions; a small dose will still pack a punch. Viva Magenta pairs well with grey, navy and khaki, and works beautifully with other pinks for a more monochromatic scheme. Also try it with tonal shades of purple, pink and blue. 


 

Chartreuse green

With the resurgence of 90s trends, everyone’s going gaga for this yellow-green in the fashion and beauty world. This refreshing zesty shade certainly adds liveliness and is a perfect antidote to dreary winter days. Chartreuse complements neutral backgrounds, creating a harmonious balance of tranquillity and energy. Introduce this uplifting shade through glassware on table settings, vases on consoles, and pops of chartreuse in wall art. 


 

Butter yellow

Think of butter yellow as an alternative to white and cream. If you already have a crisp white space or a room full of timber, butter yellow will work seamlessly adding warmth and extra cosiness. Butter yellow looks especially good in kitchens making them feel extra homey, softening harsh white and metal appliances. We’re loving all the butter yellow ceramics and textiles we’re seeing at the moment. Go small with a yellow plant pot, or go big with an area rug. 


 

Chocolate brown

Chocolate brown is a continuing favourite from previous years and is fast becoming the new neutral. Exuding depth and elegance, chocolate brown also makes you feel warm and comfortable, making it a perfect colour for winter interiors. Incorporate this sophisticated colour through rich brown sofas or combine brown textiles (such as bedding, cushions and throws) with warm neutrals or creamy whites for a refined look. 


 

Deep night blue

This deep velvety hue transforms any space into a haven of relaxation. Calming and elegant, this moody blue reminds of both the sky and sea. Embrace it fully with a statement deep blue sofa or feature wall to create a dramatically serene atmosphere. Deep night blue also pairs well with metallics and warm golden hues, making it appear extra opulent.
