Once a local secret, Laguiole cutlery is now a style statement found on tables around the world. Here's how it happened.

The story starts, charmingly, in the small French village of Laguiole where local farmers and shepherds started crafting folding knives using bone or wood handles in the 1820s.

 

Huge demand for the distinctive style and famous forged bee means the Laguiole style is now produced around the world. We believe in authenticity, so we sourced these knives and cutlery sets from Jean Néron Coutellerie, a third generation family business in Chabreloche, France.

 

As for the decorative bee (a royal seal of approval bestowed by Napoleon, according to local legend), it's just one of the details we love about Laguiole, along with the colourful handles and slim profile.

 

There's lots to love – not least the versatility, practicality and that air of easy elegance that Laguiole adds. Dress it up with white linens, or take it in a rustic direction with timber serving boards and garden blooms.
