What to pair with petrol hues

Our buying team have compiled a beautiful collection of petrol hued pieces for a specially curated sale event. We thought you might like some inspiration on how to make one of the season's hottest shades work in your space. Here we look to gold, mustard and tan to add a welcome point of contrast and create an enlightened look...

Few things could be more perfect than the deep and moody shade painted on these walls. Hauge Blue teams up with cream and repeat pops of mustard in this chic, contemporary nook.

Oh so dreamy, this ochre-gold bedding is given a retro spin with the addition of a button tufted moss green armchair. Walnut furniture and parquetry flooring complete the vibe.

Super modern, this space includes Scandi sensibilities regarding materials and proportions. A gold plant pot is a playful addition, whilst the I-want-it-now lamp adds a sophisticated element of luxe to the room.

Let's take mustard yellow out of the equation for a moment. Gold and petrol alone will pair together with neutral tones for polished appeal. Pay attention to your finishes and incorporate natural timbers for textural contrast and a so-now vibe.

Here we have a look that's a little more experimental. A combination of influences – Moroccan tiles, an angular Nordic lamp – go with an unabashed use of teal and a deep, caramelised colour. It's a yes from us.

Lucy Marston's ability to balance colour is what really makes this work. The pop of citrus from the en suite is just enough to push the calm, blue bed-scape in a new direction. We approve.

For something with a little more longevity, consider furniture items or decorative accents in amber-toned tan leather. The mottled paint finish makes for a captivating feature wall as well.
