Vixen & Velvet: The Glen Proebstel edit

Who would have thought it - the lovely and talented Melbourne-based super stylist Glen Proebstel is right here on the T&W blog! Here is Glen's edit of the vintage furniture and accents in our Vixen & Velvet feature today, and his ideas about how to use these pieces.

Glen has paired the vintage wooden writing desk with the iron chair. "In this digital age, it's a given that we need somewhere to set up our social media work station. What better way to merge tradition with technology by combining handmade vintage wooden furniture with state of the art laptops and wireless devices," he says.

Wondering how to fill a corner? Here's Glen's advice: "Who doesn't like to play dress ups now and then? The same can be said for an interior space as well and many a dreary corner of a room can be visually resolved with the addition of a mannequin or two. Use these to drape your favourite linen jacket or even to pin quirky collections that you find on your travels."

And finally, Glen's take on the importance of accessories like the water bottle and brass vase: "Something old, something new. Most people that know me also know that I adore something blue. Collecting trinkets and oddities is what makes for good styling. One can never have enough vessels for display purposes, or to add a finishing touch to a tabletop shot. These handmade pieces are a welcome addition."

Glen is the Style Director for Inside Out magazine, a very busy commercial stylist (clients include Aura by Tracie Ellis and Domayne), owner of props house Prop'd with his business partner Rachel, and creator (often with photographer Sharyn Cairns) of the best moody blues around. I first met him when Temple & Webster was very new – I was rather awestruck but he was endlessly kind, very generously sharing contacts and information over coffee. The T&W team admires his styling work, which has a real painterly quality. You really feel you could step straight in to one of the scenes he sets - we love his work for Aura by Tracie Ellis. Here's to more collaboration with Glen!
