Ultimate Easter cocktails

Adults also deserve Easter indulgence. Hot cross bun cocktails and chocolate martinis, anyone?

Hot cross bun cocktails
Have too many buns and they're starting to get stale? Simply use them to make a syrup for this hot cross bun amaretto sour (pictured below). Just cook with sugar and water to create a fragrant liquid laced with the flavours of cinnamon, mixed spice and dried fruit. Together with the almond-flavoured liqueur and syrupy Pedro Ximénez sherry, it's like consuming a delicious festive pastry.

Take your Easter cocktail cue from mixologist Grant Collins of Sydney's Gin Lane, and brew up your very own hot cross bun spiced gin. Simply combine three-quarters of a bottle of gin, two cinnamon sticks, a spoonful of raisins and a few saffron threads, shake and leave to infuse for at least six hours. Use this as the base for Gin Lane's hot cross bun martini (below).

Chocolate cocktails
Leave the eggs for the kids and enjoy this delicious chocolate martini instead. With Baileys, chocolate liqueur, vodka and extra chocolate for drizzling, it'll make Easter all the more sweeter.

Love the combination of coffee and chocolate? Go no further than this mudslide complete with set melted chocolate around the rims of the glasses.

If you prefer something less rich, creamy and predictable, check out these chocolate cake shots. With no chocolate, the drink mimics the flavour of chocolate cake with hazelnut liqueur and vodka, ideally vanilla-flavoured. Even if you don't believe it, it'll certainly make game night a lot more interesting.

Tip for cocktail presentation
A chilled glass always adds to the appeal of your drink. Simply put your glass in the fridge 15 minutes prior, or fill your glass with iced water, let it sit to develop a frost, then empty it before pouring in your cocktail. Shop our martini glasses and rocks glasses, otherwise known as old fashioned glasses, for boozy drinks served on the rocks.
