Tine Kjeldsen - The Tine K Home Collection

Tine Kjeldsen, the founder and creative director of Tine K Home Collection was drawn to the world of interior design from a very early age.

"I started to create small set-ups in my room. I was around 12 years when the passion for interiors and beautiful calm and light dusty colours started. This was for sure the beginning of my life as an interior decorator", says Tine.

And in many ways she has stuck true to those formative principles. The core colour palette comes from her love of 'cold' colours and a certain Scandinavian approach to simplicity, which plays with shape, tone and texture. The collection utilises greys in varying depths, from the palest of dove grey through to intense dark tones, stone, chocolate and cream, and of course a myriad of whites in both shades and textures. "White is not just white – white wash linen, painted white floors, white flowers. White can turn into a lot of different looks depending on what material it is. I use it like a base in our house, so floors and walls are painted white. From this I can change the look summer and winter more easily", she says.

Tine combines this core aesthetic with home wares sourced on her travels – each item carefully chosen to dovetail with her overall philosophy. "I also love to find artisans, which can make unique handmade pieces to add to the collection - like our lanterns. The handmade look gives a unique and personal touch". She clearly delights that a table setting can be a cross-cultural mix of products from Morocco, the Philippines and Vietnam, yet because they have been through her rigorous style filter they all work seamlessly together.

"Mix and match is fantastic - if it gets done with care. I mix old wooden French furniture with our bamboo furniture. Also our cushions are a mix of linen with velvet and cottons. It's the different surfaces that makes the look", says Tine.

She sees parallels in the lifestyles of the Danes and Australians; "Both are open minded and easy going people with a passion for outdoor life. We share the same passion for late summer nights with friends and barbeques, lighting a lot of lanterns and making the nights endless." she says.

Not one for specific design trends Tine taps into a more timeless beauty with excitement and personality achieved through the sourcing of interesting product and the styling combinations she creates to showcase how different elements can work together.

She expresses it eloquently when she says, "The Tine K Home Collection is based on the passion for beautiful objects, sweet memories, different cultures, and storytelling."
