T&W Design Crush: Martyn Lawrence Bullard
Some members of the T&W team (ahem) were rather excited to hear that LA- based decorator to the stars Martyn Lawrence Bullard will be visiting Sydney soon.
His work for celebrity clients such as Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Elton John, Ellen Pompeo and Tamara Mellon has been well documented in magazines, but it wasn't until watching Million Dollar Decorators earlier this year that we realised the full extent of his fabulousness.
Charming, camp and completely over the top, he seemed to be the epitome of a celebrity decorator. But for all the fluff, his interiors are thoughtful and individual. He has said that he decorates for his clients, not for himself, so his work is not necessarily immediately identifiable. These three images show very different styles, each a little eclectic, united by an element of comfort and sophistication. His attention to proportion and detail ensures these rooms are beautiful, but at the same time they look (just about) liveable.
Some may say that having million dollar budgets makes his job a little easier, and no doubt it makes the shopping a lot of fun. In fact, when you can have anything at all, there is quite an art to keeping things luxurious but a little restrained - especially when your client is Elton John!
Some of us (all right, me again) will be hearing Martyn speak while he's in Sydney, so we'll report back.
In his words: totally delicious, darlings.
