One Thing for Winter: use lamplight

Lamplight

We've asked the experts to share their top tips for making your home a winter comfort zone. First up, why our head of  styling Jessica Bellef loves the soft glow of lamplight.

When the days are shorter, the weather wilder and the light dimmer, my favourite thing is to flick on the lamps and make the house feel warm and cosy. My grandma would keep the hallway lamp on, and Mum does the same, inviting guests in with a big enveloping hug. Some of my favourite movie sets feature layered lamplight, in rooms stuffed with books, art and armchairs.

Woody Allen and Nancy Meyers films give the best example of lamps done right and it's fitting that these films often focus on relationships and personal interactions. Nothing makes a room feel more intimate and inviting than the soft glow of a lamp.
