Know your classics - The Bally 'Blonde'

Find out why the iconic Bally 'Blonde' image qualifies as a classic, in our two minute classic-cheat-sheet.

What?  Iconic Bally advertising poster, known as Bally 'Blonde' or 'Pink Shoes'.

Who?  French graphic artist Bernard Villemot created the poster for Bally. The winner of multiple awards, Villemot's work is now highly collectible and has featured in retrospective exhibitions at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs and the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, Villemot is also known for his posters for Orangina and Air France.

When?  The original was created in 1982, although its simple lines and minimal text keep it timeless and guarantee its place as a classic design. Original examples can command thousands of dollars at auction; one is held by the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.

Why we love it:  Simple lines, bold colours, and that insouciant French sophistication. A hint of Matisse in those long legs. Framed and ready to hang, the Bally 'Blonde' will add graphic punch and an international flavour to any space.
