How to style a Hamptons bathroom

There's nothing like a bit of Hamptons styling to bring a sense of coastal relaxation and rejuvenation to a space, and the bathroom is exactly the place for it! From tapware to wall colouring, we show you how to evoke cool elegance so you can start and finish your day the right way.

Create a base

Start by curating a colour palette of cool neutrals, sharp white and dusty blues to instil calm. Shiplap is a staple of Hamptons styling, so be bold and incorporate this into your wall design, painted in a deep, soothing blue. A white, Shaker-style vanity unit with a neutral marble top and glossy, patterned floor tiling round out the foundation. If you have room, go for an oversized, gleaming white freestanding bathtub for ultimate elegance and relaxation.

Add in some detail

Your fixtures, lighting and window treatments are what bring your classic base to life. Opt for plantation shutters that allow light to stream in when you want, but can also be completely closed for a bit of privacy. Metal wall sconces in white evoke a feeling of being outdoors in the sea air and break up a darker wall. Place them on either side of a timber-framed mirror, which brings a natural touch into the space. Tapware is where you can really get creative, as both sleek or traditional styling pair beautifully with Hamptons styling. Go for chrome or nickel-plated fixtures for a more traditional look, or give your bathroom a modern edge with brushed brass or gold. Just make sure all the fixtures match.

Don't forget to accessorise

The final touches are always important, but keep your accessories to a minimum to avoid clutter and let the theme sing on its own. Use this opportunity to highlight natural materials, like bamboo, rattan and linen through a towel rack, plant basket and bath towels. Include a decorative tray and soap dispenser on the vanity in neutral marble or terrazzo for those often-used items. Lastly, make sure to add in a touch of greenery with real or faux plants, and of course a gorgeous glass vase for a floral bouquet.
