How to decorate with black and beige
Black and beige as a colour scheme is just as classic as black and white, but it actually makes a space feel even more friendly and welcoming. Although some might call beige drab or old-fashioned, there's certainly nothing beige about beige, and there really is a version of the colour to suit everyone.
Beige is essentially a very pale brown that's between a tan and a white. This wonderfully versatile neutral can vary in its concentration of brown, grey and yellow, offering many different shades with warm or cool undertones. Black especially makes a great pairing with beige as it works well with all its incarnations. Here, stylist Allira shares a few ways to decorate your home with this winning colour combination.

Decide between warm & cool beiges
Take advantage of the nuances between different shades of beige by first thinking about whether warmer or cooler undertones are best for your space. Warmer tones such as natural oatmeal or sandy fawn (with more brown) are visually stimulating and balance the starkness of black; while cooler tones such as ash tan or greyish taupe (with more white) foster serenity and calm. You can mix both warm and cool beiges within a space (as we have done above), but think about the dominant effect you'd like for the space.
Make black the hero
For a dramatic statement, make black the hero, and beige the accent. Paint walls black, opt for black flooring, or add luxurious black curtains to create a cosy, cocoon-like space, then weave in beige through furniture and decor to temper the strength of black and make the space feel more balanced.
Make beige the hero
To make a space feel more open and airy, make beige the hero and black the sidekick. Choose larger pieces such as sofas or rugs in shades of beige, and smaller pieces such as cushions or lighting in black, then opt for a white paint colour for your walls to make your black and beige colour scheme really stand out.
Add curves
Select shapes carefully to harness the energy of black. Curved pieces enhance visual flow and prevent this dark shade from being overwhelming. If you're weary of having too much black, inject it gently through smaller rounded pieces such as vases or ornaments, but for a bold look, opt for larger rounder pieces such as a circular dining table or curvy armchair.
Add metallics
To inject a sophisticated and contemporary look, add furniture or decor with silver, brass and chrome finishes to your black and beige colour scheme.
