We took a (digital) stroll through the shortlisted projects in the Residential Decoration category of the Australian Interior Design Awards, and found plenty of beautiful bedrooms. If you're looking for themes, we're calling timber, indigo, shades of grey, texture and - always - an artfully arranged throw.



In this Kirribilli apartment by Hare Klein, the colours of the ever-present harbour view are reflected in the layered textures of the room, from grasscloth wallpaper  and indigo linens to the vintage timber bench and marble dish.

Sarah Davison Interior Design created a simple yet utterly luxurious bedroom using the rich tones of a curved timber bed, soft carpet and neutral linens. The result is a calm and sophisticated haven with a nod to mid-century style.

Timber was used as a bedhead in a Victorian terrace by Nexus Designs. Its organic feel acts in contrast to the crisp striped bedhead and splash of bright colour.

In a Melbourne home filled with colourful contemporary art (see the rest of the project here), geometric cushions add a playful touch to an otherwise 'grown up' bedroom by Matt Gibson Architecture + Design.

The black bedside table and art add a graphic element to this soft grey room by Travis Walton. Mustard cushions add interest - and what about that lamp!

A contemporary bedroom designed by Greg Natale for an Ian Moore project features a simple grey and mustard palette, with a geometric rug as the hero. A circular bedside table and organic shaped artwork counter all the straight lines in the space.

Lauren Macer of Sisalla Interior Design aimed for "relaxed sophistication", and her mid-century vibe and casual styling makes for a cosy and appealing space.
