Best of British: Burleigh

A civilised breakfast of tea & lemon, a boiled egg and toast (we'll excuse the flamboyantly sugared berries) is the perfect match for lovely Burleigh china.

Burleighware, as it's known, has been made in Stoke-on-Trent since 1851, and the blue & white Calico pattern is a very appealing classic. The pattern is transfer printed onto tissue paper from a copper engraving and then applied to the glazed china by hand with soft soap. The china is then fired and glazed again, which means the pattern won't fade or wear off.
