We're really happy to have a selection of architecture and design coffee table books from Berkelouw Books featured today, along with lots of notebooks, pens, CDs and accessories. All great Christmas gifts, and we are guaranteeing pre-Christmas delivery for this sale.
We like to share the stories behind our brands, and Berkelouw Books has a longer story than most. The first Berkelouw bookstore opened in Rotterdam, Holland in 1812. Yes, 1812, before William Temple and John Webster had even arrived in Sydney. After four generations, the business and the family suffered terribly during World War II when the store was bombed, several family members died and the collection burned.
Unsurprisingly, Isidoor Berkelouw left Europe behind and sailed to Sydney, opening a store in King St. Paul, Robert and David Berkelouw, the sixth generation of Berkelouw booksellers, opened their flagship store in Paddington, Sydney in 1994 and now have stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Queensland. If you've visited one, you'll know they really demonstrate the Berkelouw family's passion for books.
The Berkelouws have some exciting plans for 2012 - we'll keep you up to date on those. Until then, enjoy our sale event.
