Aussie holiday destination looks
With domestic travel restrictions still in place, many of our holiday plans will have to be postponed, but that hasn't stopped us from planning the ultimate escape. We share three of our favourite local luxury accommodation in Tasmania, Victoria and the Northern Territory, then show you how to create their distinctive interiors in your own home for a super stylish staycation.
Red Feather Inn, Tasmania: French provincial
Located in the town of Hadspen, 8km from Launceston, the Red Feather Inn luxury bed and breakfast comprises a collection of beautifully restored heritage buildings dating back to 1842. The eight Georgian suites and cottages are centered around a leafy French-inspired garden, and include the original officers' quarters for the historic jail next door, as well as a suite featuring convict hand-carved sandstone features. In keeping with the French provincial theme, the colour palette is an elegant mix of white and cream with red accents. Furniture style varies from the more ornate Louis XV upholstered chairs and sideboards with cabriole legs, to the more rustic wrought-iron bed frames and French farmhouse-style kitchens.

Lake House, Daylesford: Luxe
As its name suggests, this luxurious boutique hotel is situated at the edge of the lake in Daylesford, a scenic town around 110km north-west of Melbourne that's renowned for its mineral springs and spas. The Lake House, which includes 34 rooms including 12 suites and two villas, is pure European-style luxe with studded leather sofas, velvet armchairs and ottomans, custom-made upholstered bedheads, deep freestanding bathtubs and vibrant artwork from resident artist Allan Wolf-Tasker. Slate greys, whites and beiges provide a solid neutral palette from which to inject rich jewel tones such as peacock blue and citrine yellow. Just as elegant is the award-winning cuisine at the hotel's fine dining restaurant under the culinary helm of Alla Wolf-Tasker.

Bamurru Plains, NT: Australiana
For local safari action, look no further than Bamurru Plains. This wild bush luxury resort based on a working buffalo station is set within the floodplains and savannah of the Mary River wetlands, west of Kakadu National Park in Australia's Top End. In keeping with the surroundings, the aesthetic is rustic chic with the 10 bungalows decked out in earthy colours, wicker lounges, timber furniture and corrugated iron finishes. Ceiling-to-floor mesh walls on three sides of every bungalow allow guests to be fully immersed in the sights and sounds of the wilderness: the call of the magpie geese, the roaming buffalo and perhaps the theatre of a couple of wrestling wallabies. With no TV, wi-fi or mobile phone reception, this is really a return to nature.
