A to Z of Style: H is for Headboards

T&W Head of Styling Jessica Bellef is back with 'H' in our A to Z of Style series – this time focussing on the hero of the bedroom, the headboard. Read on to immerse yourself in Jess's beautiful collection of bedroom looks, inspired by fashion.
Drawing parallels between homewares and fashion is in my top 5 things to do on a rainy day (I know, I know, I need to expand my horizons!). If sparkly light fixtures are the earrings of the home, then I propose that headboards are the hats in our place of R&R, capping off that space above our noggins...Stay with me…
A smart topper will complete a look. It has the power of drawing the eye away from less than attractive elements and, in the right colour or pattern, it can make a bold statement within an otherwise neutral composition. Material choice can say a lot about the look you are going for, as does the scale and shape.
So whether you are looking to update your headboard, or your headgear, the following inspiration gallery will have you headed in the right direction.

You can't pass up loose fits and layers of soft fabrics for a relaxed and comfy approach to styling. Playing with trans-seasonal shades of indigo, chambray and bleached-out grey gives you a look that is perfect for a day of slouching about.

Strong shapes, clean lines and polished details will sharpen up a boho-inspired look. Rich colours like rust, turmeric and sienna intensify even more so when paired with black and white, and global-inspired motifs look fresh when given a bold, graphic spin.

High contrast equals high drama, especially when you are laying on shades of zingy red. Hard-to-ignore red is a daring way to go as it emits a lightning bolt's worth of 'look at me' energy. Balance out the zing by keeping the shapes simple and the patterns minimal.

Choose rattan and cane for the ultimate beach-inspired look. Fully commit to the style with crisp white linen, a palette of sandy highlights and touches of island greenery. Light a sea-breeze scented candle and you are well on your way to an ocean-side retreat.

There is something about emerald that screams polished glamour, especially when the lush shade slinks over velvet and silk. Tailored detailing, like neat pintucks and buttoning, work in this look, as do old-world or exotic patterns inspired by oriental rugs and chinoiserie.
