We're excited to bring you Aura's brand new porcelain range of mugs, bowls and side plates in the brand's signature bright colours and bold patterns. We caught up with Tracie Ellis (we'd like to say it was over breakfast but since she's in Melbourne, it was sadly over email) to find out more about her plan for total home domination.
Congratulations on your new ceramics range – what prompted the move onto our tables?
We started our range in 2000 with a bed linen collection and since then we've introduced products for almost every room in your home. Cushions, throws, rugs and hall runners, table linen, bath and beach towels. But the kitchen is my favourite room in the house. I love cooking and spend my weekends cooking for friends and family, often with produce we've grown in our garden in Kyneton. So the ceramics collection is really for me. I am hoping our AURA customers like it too.

The combination you've come up with (mug, small plate, bowl) feels breakfast-ready. Was this the meal you had in mind?
The bowls and coffee mugs are great for breakfast, and then I use our side plates as dinner plates, we have been using a smaller tapas style plate for our meals for a while now. We serve dinner onto these from a platter rather than serving up onto traditional sized dinner plates.

Speaking of breakfast, what's your ideal morning meal?
Mojo Muesli with organic natural yoghurt, fresh berries and my own-spiced pears. And I manage to have 2 cups of breakfast tea before leaving for the office.

As ever, the designs stand alone and also mix well together. Which is your personal approach?
I am a bit of both! I have our new Check bowls, plates and coffee mugs, I am also planning on collecting one of each of our coffee mugs but I will keep my bowls and plates to one design and I'm waiting for our next ceramics to arrive to mix back and grow my own collection.
We're still obsessing over your Kyneton escape, Ellis House. What are you doing there to update for Spring?
We are right in the middle of building a fabulous new deck, which will get the morning sun and be great for breakfast, we are breakfast people :-) I am also currently working hard in the garden with the help of my talented gardening friend Louise. It's so wonderful to be welcoming Spring into the garden and start to see everything emerging after Winter, its just such a beautiful time of the year.
