Bar Carts

A bar cart offers what a stationary sideboard cannot: effortless mobility that follows the party from room to room or outdoors. Across our collection of over 30 bar carts, mobility is the primary defining feature. Start your search by deciding whether you need mobile serving flexibility or a fixed setup before comparing storage capacity or materials.

Bar carts storage and mobility considerations

At around 42cm high and roughly 77.5cm by 78.5cm in footprint, bar carts generally sit noticeably smaller than a sideboard or buffet, which is the trade-off you're making when you choose one over fixed storage. A 2-tier steel bar cart suits a smaller apartment or a corner that needs occasional drinks storage without committing permanent floor space to it.

Industrial-style steel and quartz stone combinations are available in our range, alongside gold and brass metal tones that lean into the cart as a decorative piece as much as a functional one. Because the footprint is fixed and small, capacity is the thing to check against your actual bottle and glassware collection before buying on looks alone.

For everyday storage capacity, our sideboards & buffets will hold considerably more than any bar cart in our range and are a good option if you're looking for a more fixed space or dedicated storage to restock your bar cart from.

Bar cart wheels and flooring compatibility

Wheels and castors are standard across most bar carts in the market, which is worth checking against your flooring type before buying, as a cart that rolls well on hardwood will behave differently on carpet. Most castors are easily replaceable, so don't let them turn you away from a style you really like. A 2-tier steel cart is the easiest build to move often, while a heavier stone or quartz-topped cart tends to get repositioned less once it's in place as they are less manoeuvrable.

Gold, black and medium wood tones lead our colour range, with several carts in antique gold or brass specifically chosen to read as a focal piece rather than blend into the background. A gold or brass-toned cart tends to work best as a focal point in a living or dining space, while a black or steel-framed cart sits more quietly alongside existing furniture.

Bar carts in steel, glass, stone & more

Most bar carts in our range use a steel frame as the base structure, with the material choice on top, whether quartz stone, glass or a matching steel shelf, doing most of the work in how heavy and how sturdy the finished cart feels. A drinks trolley with a quartz stone top carries more weight and generally feels steadier when fully loaded with bottles and glassware, at the cost of being harder to lift over a doorstep or up a step.

An all-steel cart is lighter, which suits a cart that gets moved often between rooms or out to a balcony for entertaining. Considering the top material against how often the cart will actually be relocated is worth doing before choosing on looks alone as it can have a big impact on how much use you get out of it.

If a heavier, fixed piece with more surface area is a better fit for your needs, our range of side & end tables offers a stationary alternative in a similar footprint.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a bar cart and a drinks trolley?

The names are largely interchangeable across our range. Pieces named "drinks trolley" tend to lean toward a stone or glass top, while "bar cart" more often refers to an all-metal build.

How much can a bar cart hold?

It depends on the tier count and shelf size, but generally less than a sideboard. Most bar carts can easily hold a cocktail shaker & accessories, one or two sets of cups and 4-6 bottles of alcohol. Check dimensions against your actual bottle and glassware collection.

Are bar carts easy to move on carpet?

Most castors on bar carts are suitable for carpet, though thicker piles and rugs can be harder to move on. If you have thicker carpet, uneven levels between rooms or rugs around the house then rollerblade style castor replacements are a good thing to consider, as the higher and thinner wheels translate better between materials and across small height changes.

What's the standard size of a bar cart?

Most sit around 42cm high with a footprint close to 78cm by 78cm. This makes them considerably smaller than a sideboard or buffet but large enough to hold enough alcohol, glasses and accessories to cover most entertainment needs.

Is a gold or black bar cart easier to match with other pieces?

A black or steel tone tends to sit more neutrally alongside existing furniture. A gold or brass tone works better as a standalone focal piece in its own right but can work well in more opulent rooms.
