Large Christmas Trees

Large Christmas tree heights for open-plan rooms and foyers

Choose a large tree, generally starting around 2 metres and extending to 2.4 metres, if you have higher ceilings or a double-height foyer to fill. Go large for an open-plan living area to match the scale of the room; a smaller tree can look lost against high ceilings or a wide floor plan. Check your ceiling height before buying at this size especially, as a topper adds extra height on top of the tree's stated measurement. Measure the floor space around it as well, because a large tree also needs a wider base footprint than the height alone suggests.

Branch density and fullness on a large Christmas tree

Choose a large tree to create a bold focal point. Their denser branch structure builds a much fuller silhouette than smaller alternatives. Expect a multi-section trunk at this size, too, which makes assembly a little more involved but keeps the tree manageable to move and store in parts. Go large if you're planning a heavily-decorated tree specifically, as the fuller branch structure holds more decorations without looking sparse. Buy decorations in bigger sets to match the expanded branch surface of a big tree.

Decorating a large Christmas tree without leaving bare patches

Budget for more decorations overall than you might expect, as a large tree needs extra coverage to avoid bare patches, particularly toward the middle branches where gaps show most on a taller tree. Work from the trunk outward rather than placing pieces randomly in order to give a more even coverage across a large tree's wider branch spread. Layer ribbon or garland through the branches before adding baubles to help fill gaps that individual ornaments alone might leave.

Frequently asked questions

How many decorations does a large Christmas tree typically need?

A large tree from 2 to 2.4 metres generally needs around 80 to 120 decorations for full coverage. Trees taller than that may need closer to 150 decorations.

Can a large Christmas tree fit through a standard doorway when packed?

Most large trees pack down into multiple boxes or sections that fit through a standard doorway.

Does a large Christmas tree need a stronger stand than a standard tree?

Yes, large trees generally come with a wider, weighted stand to support the extra branch weight. Avoid substituting a smaller stand from another tree as it may not provide enough stability.

Does Temple & Webster deliver large Christmas trees assembled?

No, large trees are delivered in sections or in a folded state for assembly at home. This keeps the packaging manageable for standard courier delivery.
