Hanging Christmas stockings without a fireplace or mantel
Use a mantel hook if you have a fireplace, or go with a wall-mounted hook, doorknob or the end of a staircase bannister if you don't. A shelf edge or bookcase works as a good alternative in a room without a mantel or bannister to use. Weight the toe of the stocking slightly, or use a heavier hook, if you want to stop it slipping once it's filled with presents. Hang it on a bedpost or wall hook in the bedroom instead if your household doesn't have a shared mantel space.

Frequently asked questions
What's the standard size of a Christmas stocking?
Most Christmas stockings measure between 40 and 50cm from the top opening to the toe. Larger Christmas sacks can reach 60cm or more.
Can Velvet Christmas stockings be washed after use?
Velvet stockings are usually better suited to spot cleaning only.
How many stockings does a household typically need?
Most households buy one stocking per family member, plus sometimes an extra for a pet. Buying a couple of spares is worth considering if you expect the household to grow over the coming years.
Are Christmas stockings sold individually or only in sets?
Most stockings are sold individually so you can buy exactly the number your household needs.
