Why we love wool

It's practically compulsory for Australians to love wool, given that sheep farming has been part of our national identity since the earliest days of industry. We wanted to show off the natural beauty of our collection of wool rugs and blankets, so we sent photographer Natalie Hunfalvay and stylist Adam Powell bush. Excuse us while we wax lyrical about wool while showing off the results of their location shoot.

There is something very special about the combination of natural beauty and craftsmanship in a wool rug. The incredible qualities of wool are indisputable: it is not only a renewable and sustainable resource, it is breathable, and naturally stain and water-resistant. More than that, its fibres hold colour well, which allows for design adventures from graphic pattern to subtle gradations of colour, all on a base of natural texture

Above all, wool is warm, which explains why it has been used for rugs and blankets for thousands of years. You only have to look to that much-loved Australian icon – the ugg boot – to understand how much we love to have our toes warmed by wool.

We believe in authenticity, so our creative team went bush to capture the beauty of wool at its source. Knowing the provenance of the things you own makes you appreciate them all the more, and our team was treated to the best of country hospitality on location outside Sydney.

Whether you favour the neutral hues closest to wool's natural colour, or a bold colour or pattern, a wool rug or blanket is an investment in something 'real'. And that should make you feel warm on the inside.
