Inspired by today's blooming beautiful sale event, Karen McCartney searches for spaces where oversized, dramatic florals create impact, and explains why they work.
There is a wild, windswept expression of the beauty in the flowers painted on the wall. The muted palette adds to their otherworldly quality. While the context is clearly a home of some age, as indicated by the herringbone flooring and deep timber skirting boards, the pair of fibre-glass chairs in elephant hide grey adds a touch of mid-century modernity.
There is a certain pleasing control in this assemblage of various decorative objects ranging from mirrors to rugs. While there are bursts of sharper colour - such as the blue of the cushion pad and the green in the rug - the overall scheme is slightly muted. The boho charm comes from the sense of items collected over time and then curated with immense care and thought - transforming them from old-fashioned to modern.
There is so much to be seduced by in this moody interior of deep floral excess. The dark tones in time-weathered timber are enlivened by the addition of dense floral fabrics and flooring. The arrangement of fresh flowers, displayed in carefree bundles, and in a variety of vases, evokes the casualness of the country garden.
