The Prop Shoppers

Jessica Bellef and Adam Powell are back with their latest finds and current obsessions...

Jess: Styling up a Scandi scene requires elements with clean lines, beautiful timber accents, a light palette and natural materials and textures. I needed a chair to add to this Nordic scene and my friends at Blu Dot were able to help me out. Their Knicker chair fit the look, with the jaunty walnut legs and sleek white leather upholstery. Get the fika* ready, our work here is done.

Adam: Ici Et Là is a hidden gem tucked away in a back lane of Surry Hills. It is a quirky little store with a French flair. You are quickly drawn in by the bold stripy deckchairs and fabrics out the front. But today it was the zinc coated alphabet letters that caught my eye. The chalky texture and their size were perfect for my bedding shot to give a fun twist on the nighttime Zzz's.

Jess: I love mood boards like I love coffee in the morning- they both give me a massive kick. The brief was set to create a white mood board and so I went hunting. I collected from op shops, specialty stationary stores, Reverse Garbage and so on. My last stop was at The Society Inc, stylist Sibella Court's Paddington emporium of whimsy and beauty. It was here that I found the pièce de résistance- a porcelain fortune cookie. So perfect in its neat little fold, with an even more perfect fortune inside: You are a fox. Mood board collection complete and self image enhanced. Brilliant!

Adam: I have been obsessed with Pandanas for a while now. They remind me of lazy afternoons in Byron with a warm salty breeze. I was over the moon when I went into see Ferdinando at Garlands Florist in Surry Hills and he had 3. I love the texture and weight of them. They are a great alternative to a bunch of flowers on the end of the kitchen bench, coffee table or thrown into your fruit bowl. Their interesting shape is a talking point and they normally last about 4-5 weeks.

Adam: Meet Fred Fox. He is the new kid on the block for vintage fabric artist Zoe Simpson of Pouch Handmade. For me it is the colours of this little guy that make him special. I used his coral and orange to pop against the layered charcoals and greys of deer, lamb and cow hides. It really gave it a scandi-nursery feel. Thanks Mr Fox.
