Temple & Webster on diversity, equity and inclusion

As Temple & Webster grows and evolves, our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion remains steadfast. DEI has been part of our philosophy since day one. As a values-led organisation, we have always known that creating a workplace where people feel respected, safe and supported in their individuality is fundamental to our success. DEI is embedded in how we work, how we lead, how we support and how we grow together as a team.

Our vision is to create a culturally rich safe space so everyone can be their authentic selves and feel a sense of belonging.

“We’re creating a safe space where you don’t have to hide who you are. Being a truly diverse and inclusive business definitely has business benefits, it’s not just warmth and fuzziness.”
Mark Coulter, CEO, Temple & Webster

Our We are Inclusive Committee

Aptly called “We are Inclusive”, after one of our company values, this committee, comprised of volunteers from across the business, focuses their efforts on a wide range of DEI issues including gender, multiculturalism, First Nations, accessibility, neurodiversity, mental health, age, caregiving, as well as LGBTQIA+ issues.

The goal of this committee is to promote a culture of inclusiveness and respect by identifying and addressing any barriers to inclusion that may exist in our workplace. We know that a diverse and inclusive workplace is not only the right thing to do, but it also makes our team stronger and more innovative.

Here are some of the committee’s recent achievements and ongoing initiatives:

  • Ran neurodiversity workshops through the Little Neuroinclusion Agency to make our processes, from hiring to everyday ways of working, more inclusive.

  • Ran mental health first aid training through Mental Health First Aid International, and work with Black Dog Institute to share resources and organise lived-experience speakers for RUOK Day and Men’s Health Week.

  • Rolled out Flexibility Policy and Family & Caring Responsibilities Policy offering options for flexible work arrangements.

  • Introduced the swapping of public holidays to better suit individual needs.

  • Acknowledge and celebrate a wide range of cultural days of significance with education and dedicated office events.

  • Advertise all job opportunities on Indigenous Employment Australia, a national job board that connects employers with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander job seekers.

  • Continue to focus on ways in which we can close the gender pay gap in line with our Gender Equality Strategy.
