One thing for winter: warm up your floors

In our latest One Thing For Winter, interior stylist and designer Lisa Koehler adds layers and contrasting textures for maximum warmth.

Layers of texture throughout the home is my one thing for winter. The key is to combine different textures – for example, wool mixed with linen a little velvet and cotton. My favorite place to start layering is the floor. There is something very comforting and luxurious about a soft, textured rug, and you don’t have to stop at just one. Consider layering contrasting styles and textures, like a beautiful wool flatweave mixed with a vintage kilim or hide. Add a beautiful floor cushion, a throw and a pile of your favorite magazines for the perfect night in! Another favourite winter living room addition for me is a beautiful big basket, filled with throws for the family to use on chilly evenings.
