Winter often cops a lot of snarly looks and snarky comments - and whilst it's not everyone who will readily tell spring to wait its turn - we've decided that there's a lot to love about the southern hemisphere's cold snap.

Now this is a dream winter space for me. The soundtrack would be the crackle of a fireplace and my feet would be covered in fuzzy woollen socks. I would be stretched out on that butterfly chair, reaching out to the ottoman. Distracted only by the crisp wintergreens outside the generous windows, I would lose my afternoon in a book, snuggling into the sheepskin, soaking up that glorious vitamin D magnified through the windows.

When it comes to interiors, sleek uber-modern spaces get me yawning. In the bedroom above, the minimal headboard and the shiny metallic pendants would fit right into a modern white cube, but the styling brings the pieces into a warm and textured place. It is the spoonful of mustard colour through the linen and organically shaped ceramic that makes it so. Mustard plays nicely with grey and navy - it’s like yellow has put on a winter coat and is holding hands with the standard wintery hues.

A stylist's work tends to be messy and sweaty, with a generous cloud of dust and dirt in the mix. Prissy perfection isn’t generally my thing, so feminine pink velvet and I aren’t obvious mates. Except for when it is slouchy and comfortable, like in this interior. The simple no-fuss shape of the seat-set tones down the sugary pink velvet and the greenery in the space adds a lush casualness. It could be 5 degrees outside but the plants instantly transport us to a steamy jungle clime.

Hibernating and cutting ourselves off from the outside world is generally the vibe in winter. But if you can get yourself out of your Snuggy, winter is the perfect time to get friends and family over, heat up the house and serve up a hearty winter feast. When styling a table for a cosy meal, I am a big fan of organic shapes, milky colour palettes and a touch of fancy (i.e. gold cutlery or cut crystal glasses).

The smell of coffee brewing and wholesome winter cooking is the olfactory sensation this richly toned kitchen conjures. The smaller scale of the black tiles texture the wall in a beautiful way. And not to mention the fantastic cabinetry, with the lush timber warming up the dark tiles and bench tops. I would spend many an afternoon here making soups and baking bread, and enjoying a glass or two of red wine.

The light is spectacular in this room and the timber beams are a handsome structural detail that adds definition to the lofty ceilings. The walnut and leather furniture pieces are masculine and strong in form but the intricately patterned threadbare rug softens the space. Texture on the floor adds depth and the muted shades of indigo in the rug work so well with chocolately timber. There is a perfect balance here which pleases me to no end. #gush #swoon #whataninteriorstragic

With worn leather chairs around a fireplace and musical instruments strewn about, this is the setting for a perfectly bohemian drizzly Sunday afternoon. Even if you’ve never heard of Jack Kerouac and the only musician named ‘Chet’ you know is Chet Faker, you can still appreciate the perfect scale of everything in the space. The oversized pendant light fills up the vast height of the room, perfectly in proportion to the mirror over the mantle. The cluster of smaller artworks comes together as one giant wall feature and the large vase of winter blossom is right at home above the fireplace. I dig it, man.
