Tom Dixon is one of Britain's most successful designers (he even has an OBE for goodness sake), who not only designs furniture and lighting pieces but has launched into the accessories field bringing all his design acumen, knowledge of materials and visual excitement to bear on this growing category.

The Tom Dixon brand is sold in 60 countries and has just recently found a place in Harrods' cutting edge new concessions, The Club and The Laboratory, amongst a selection of acclaimed international brands.

The accessories range was launched two years ago at the Maison & Objet show in Paris and it is no surprise it has been a design hit around the world. Part of its success is due to the fact that it incorporates Dixon's core preoccupations with materials – metals, marbles, timber and stone – in a way that is made exciting and innovative for everyday use.

Faceted champagne buckets in beaten copper, honest timber chopping boards in solid slabs of oak and perforated metal tea light holders are but a few of the items on offer. But, having received a present of the trio of candles for Christmas, I am a convert to this stylish set.

Right from the sturdy designer box with its bold geometry to the selection of three scented candles – London, in a copper vessel, Orientalist in brass and Royalty in silver – they feel, look and smell wonderful. I treat them with care and only bring them out on special occasions but I am also looking forward to when they are empty and they will continue to be useful as exquisite storage pots. I love a gift that keeps on giving.
