Introducing Est Magazine

We're delighted to announce a partnership with Est magazine, an amazing online magazine created in Melbourne by editor Sian MacPherson and creative director Lynda Evans. Temple & Webster readers are invited to enjoy the brand new issue today, two days ahead of the publication date on Monday.

Published quarterly, Est is a great way to dip into the world of design, both Australian and international. This month, Est features beautiful homes in the dream European locations of Bordeaux and Capri as well as Melbourne and Brisbane. We chatted to editor Sian (pictured below) about Est, and what she loves about this issue.

Sian, what is your background and what led you to establish Est?
My background is in interior design and styling and it was while working as a freelance stylist for various design magazines as well as running my own interior design business I commissioned Est Co-Founder and Creative Director, Lynda Evans, to build my website as she is a graphic designer and digital imager.

We started a conversation about building a place where we could file our inspiration in one place - and reduce the amount of dog eared, Post-It note filled magazines lying around the house. We moved on to the idea of sharing our creative content with other like-minded souls around the world but we had no idea that we would unearth so many like-minded readers after launching our first issue nearly 2 years ago.

What is Est all about?
It seems we've struck a chord with design savvy enthusiasts who are hungry for a fresh, Australian take on trends in homewares, interior design, travel and fashion. We create a platform for artists and creatives to share their talents with the world…in a beautiful environment.

We have become well known for our Real or Replica feature where we highlight the differences between real design and the replica versions - so our readers can spot a fake at ten paces. We've built a huge following around the world and we are glad to be supporting good, authentic design. Est is not elitist, we accept that not everyone can afford an original, but we also believe with over 1000's of fantastic original designs out there there are much cleverer solutions than succumbing to a rip off version.

What's the focus for the new issue?
In Issue 7 we are excited about taking our readers on a Grand Tour of sorts. Our fabulous photographer-at-large, Robyn Lea has shot the most amazing villas in Capri, Italy, while our regular traveller-at-large, Joanna Swanson, gives us her insider's tour of Majorca. From a small townhouse in Bordeaux, to a semi in Melbourne's Albert Park, a brand new build in Brisbane to a stylish pied-a-terre in the Marais, Paris, this issue has something for everybody.

My personal favourite in the Grand Tour issue is the Trend Report - shot by Robyn Lea. It gives license to inspirations and dreams of otherworldly places. I also love the pink flamingo in our French home feature.  It just makes me happy whenever I see this shot…which is strange as the recent bird trend in homewares nearly sent me over the edge. Somehow the pink flamingo transcends this bias against birds!
