1. Plan Your Plumbing

If you're renovating, addressing any unconventional plumbing should be a priority. While moving plumbing fixtures can be expensive, it's a worthwhile investment, as bathroom renovations typically range from $15,000 to $60,000. Collaborate with your plumber to evaluate your space and estimate the cost of any necessary changes, which will ultimately add value to your home.

2. Flow and Spacing

Think about how many people will be using the bathroom. Arrange the toilet, shower, and sink in a logical sequence to create a natural flow, enhance usability, and ensure a clear path through the space. A good rule of thumb is to leave about 750mm in front of each fixture for easy movement. For more detailed measurements, check out our bathroom measurement guide [here].

3. Consider Door Swing

Pay attention to the door swing to avoid blocking fixtures and cabinetry. While swinging doors provide better privacy and noise insulation, space-saving cavity sliders are ideal for smaller bathrooms as they retract into the wall, avoiding footprint issues.

4. Prioritise Privacy

To maximise privacy, position the toilet and shower away from the entrance or main sightlines. Use a partition wall or frosted glass to create separation while maintaining an open feel. If space allows, consider a separate room or enclosed area for the toilet to enhance privacy.

5. Zone Wet and Dry Areas

Optimise your bathroom layout by creating distinct zones for wet and dry areas. Position the shower and bathtub away from the vanity and toilet to contain water splashes and prevent moisture-related damage, thus enhancing functionality and durability.
