How do gas lift beds work
Finding storage solutions that look good and feel seamless can be a pain, which is why gas lift beds have really changed the game. We're all guilty of shoving things under the bed that just don't fit anywhere, so why not make it easier on yourself to store and find those rarely used items. We answer some of the most common questions people ask about gas lift beds so you can rest easy.

What is a gas lift bed?
As the name suggests, it's a bed that has two gas cylinders that resemble bicycle pumps. These sit inside the base, under the slat frame, to allow you to easily lift the slats and mattress so you can store things inside the bed base. It works in a sort of levering fashion and the gas cylinders take the brunt of the weight so you can easily access the storage space even while your bed is made up.
How much weight can a gas lift bed hold?
Depending on the size of the bed you choose, the pressure cylinders will be calibrated to bear the weight of the corresponding mattress size, including the dressings (sheets, pillows, quilts and blankets). As you can imagine, these are quite heavy all together so do not lift the base without these things on top as the lack of weight will cause the cylinders to spring open quickly, potentially damaging the bed, twisting the frame or causing injury.
