The shortlist has been announced for this year's Australian Interior Design Awards. We headed for the Residential Decoration category in search of kitchen inspiration. Looks like our Pinterest board just got a boost...

Arent&Pyke is part of their rework of a grand 1880s terrace. The brief was to use colour to create an uplifting home, anchored in the past but inherently modern. The graphic apple artwork over the sink would definitely make doing the washing up a slightly more uplifting experience.

Atticus & Milo stayed with the 1970's vibe when designing for a 1973 home, sticking with earthy colours and eye catching natural accents.

Mim Design nailed it with a glossy benchtop, rich timber cabinetry and a copper light for a warm (and on-trend) glow.

Hare + Klein, part of a North Bondi home where materials, finishes and details flow seamlessly from inside to out.
Image by Anson Smart. In their second shortlisted design, Sydney firm
Arent&Pyke aimed to develop a 'cohesive, joyful, balanced yet effortless home'. The stunning marble splashback adds natural beauty to a fuss-free space, with metallic pendant lights emphasising the high ceiling.
