Colour therapy

Warm and cool colours can play together like the best of friends. But once in a while, you've got to pick your team. Fully immersing yourself into sunkissed hues is the ticket to warm fuzzies. Red, orange and yellow provide comfort. Now don't be so quick to give cool tones the cold shoulder. Blues, greens and cool greys soothe our intellect and lead the pack when it comes to creating calm, or making the most of a small space.

If you're eager to try out some colour therapy at home and need a few appropriate pieces, swing by our sale. In the meantime, gather interior inspiration from the spaces below.

Cool tones are ideal for a home office as they sharpen your thoughts, soothe your intellect and allow your think-tank to get down to business. Lilacs and purple tones sit in between warm and cool on the colour spectrum, depending on their tint. Above, a couple of similar lavender shades and a geometric paint job pair with blonde Scandinavian pieces and a teal floor lamp to create this cool contemporary work space.

The Tuckey's dining room offers caramel wood, tan leather and warm off-whites punctuated by the vibrant, sunny yellow of the woodcut artwork by Mark Schaller. The Borg Morgensen chairs and the rocker are oh so dreamy, and show how brown, like grey or white, can anchor climate. Great for social spaces in the heart of the home, warm colours will cause conversations to flow and make your dinner guests feel welcome.

Ideal for those with an aversion to colour, this bathroom utilises cool greys and crisp whites to the same avail as the minty rainbow of a good toothpaste. Cool colours are vital when decorating small rooms that you want to make look more spacious, and these light walls and window treatments accentuate an airy aesthetic. Bleached and bright, this bathroom relies on texture - smooth porcelain, rough brick, chrome tapware and splintered timber - to create and maintain interest.

This kitchen uses a warm blush backdrop and red accessories to create warmth. The vibrant stool and striped rug add personality, and are reflected in the deep red and bronze toned pieces displayed on open shelves. A word of warning: be careful if you're watching your waistline - warm hues can inspire over-indulgence. Keep the cookie jar on the top shelf and utilise the social properties of your space instead.

Blue hues are calming and therefore perfect for your sleep sanctuary. The above image exemplifies how the subtle addition of royal and sky blues alongside a grey timber feature wall and a concrete floor can create a restful, luxurious space for some shut-eye. A personalised studded headboard and a hint of bold, layered bedding amps up the sophistication and creates a sensual night time vibe.

Nobody does dishevelled better than the French. Fact. A pair of burnt orange corduroy – yes, corduroy – armchairs with beautifully turned, chiseled chair legs negotiate with the hexagonal tiles to provide a very tempting play on textures. Yellow-tinted creams make for one cozy farmhouse, and the well-loved red roses painted on the table keep things feminine. These warm tones create a homely space, perfect for enjoying some classic literature and a robust glass of red.
