Australia's Kitchen Rules

What does your dream kitchen look like? Are you one of the many fans of Diane Keaton's Hamptons kitchen in the movie Something's Gotta Give? Do you prefer something more modern and sleek?

These kitchens are all from interiors shortlisted in the Residential Design category of the Australian Interior Design Awards, to be awarded on 27th April (read our earlier post on the AID Awards here). Is it just me, or are all these kitchens a little similar? It looks like kitchen rules for local decorators include pendant lights (still a huge trend) and natural wood, from light to dark. Most people still find it hard to go past classic white benchtops and island seating for casual dining, but the glass splashback moment might have passed. Floors and walls are light and neutral, and the look is fairly sleek, with closed storage.

Would any of these kitchens work for you? What's your favourite style?
