Getting your home ready for Spring doesn't have to mean a huge cleaning session. We're always in favour of easy updates that are low on effort and big on impact, and we'll be sharing them all through September. To start with, here are 5 ideas to kick off the Spring-ification of your home, along with 5 pics from our Instagram feed.
Going green: Look out for the new crop of indoor plants at your local super-hardware, nursery or florist. Find some pretty pots and place a few through the house, at your front door and near your outdoor dining spot. Blooming plants will add instant hit of colour, and even after the flowers die back the green will add a welcome sense of life to your space.
Wax works: Don't underestimate the power of fragrance on both your own mood and the way others perceive your home. If you've been revelling in rich, woody scents over Winter, don't forget to change up your candles and oil burners for something lighter and sweeter.
Bed down: If you've been using a doona (duvet) over the winter, it might be time to lighten up. Take it off your bed and wash according to the instructions on the label, or drop it to the dry cleaner or laundry for a professional clean before storing for the summer. Replace with lighter layers that you can dial up or down as the weather changes.
Sofa styling: Update the cushion arrangement in your living room and bedroom by pulling out some of the heavier fabrics and darker colours and replacing with lighter linens and cotton blends in a fresh palette. You could go for all neutrals in varying textures, or combine pastels from blush to lilac, or layer in a few stronger hits of yellow, cobalt or kelly green.
A clear view: Yes, we admit this part is about cleaning, but an hour of power should do the trick and we promise it will be worth it. Put a bit of work into cleaning the windows you look through every day - the kitchen, your living or dining area, your bedroom. Inside and out, paying special attention to cobwebs. You'll be amazed at the difference, and the only downside is that it put into clear focus all the jobs you need to to outdoors.
