Jamie Durie's art collaboration - Temple & Webster Journal

Jamie Durie has come in from the garden to collaborate with The Canvas Workshop on a range of art prints created with nature in mind. Here's what he had to say about the ideas behind the collection...

What inspired your collaboration for this collection?
As always, my inspiration for all my design projects is found in nature, and I try to bring the beauty and spontaneity of the outdoors into everything I do. My work is all about infusing the essence of the 'al fresco into each design project and product. With The Canvas Workshop, I saw an opportunity to create and represent this aesthetic in the form of art and décor.

Tell us more about the designs from this collection.
It is a combination of designs that are bright pops of quick-fix colour to freshen up any space, to more tone-on-tone textural designs that are the decorative equivalent of a slow-burn; easy to live with and endlessly alluring. Then there are some which are an in-between balance, creating cohesion in both colour and form. Playful or peaceful, there is something for everyone in this collection.

What is your design ethos, and how does this collaboration reflect that philosophy?
The Jamie Durie brand is dedicated to bringing good design, style, quality and the essence of natural living into your life, through all of our products. The Canvas Workshop has worked closely with me to understand this and my passion for a 'transterior' lifestyle.

Do you have any styling tips and tricks?
For artwork, choose a neutral or organic design to pull existing colour schemes together without overpowering, or be bold and add a bright art piece to break up the space. When using artwork to create balance and synergy in big spaces, try choosing two 'sister' pieces that complement each other and hang them side by side. For a relaxed feel, lean an artwork on a buffet or sideboard. With art, the bigger the size, the bigger the impact. Don't be afraid to play with proportion.
