Here's a bold statement to start off: I think it's possible to make peace with your wardrobe space. I might not be Marie Kondo, but I've learnt a thing or ten about storage, preservation and keeping things pretty. Without further ado, get stuck in to these dressing room must-do's...

1. Keep out-of-season or occasion wear in storage

2. Stack folded clothing vertically in your chest of drawers so you can easily see what you have

3. Repurpose a bookcase or shelving unit as a shoe rack

4. Store your jewellery on a hanging tree or in a special jewellery box to avoid loss or damage

5. Create styled vignettes where possible

6. Hang tops higher than bottoms – it makes sense visually and helps to plan outfits

7. Treat the space like any other area in your home and decorate it

8. Use good quality hangers that fit the shape of your clothing

9. Fold knitwear to avoid stretching it

10. Use boxes and baskets for storage (if everything's on show it can be overwhelming)
