Warnarringa means sun. The sun is the source of life & death, bringing life & heat to the people. There are many dreaming about the sun, & in Aboriginal culture, she is universally female. For Russellina, this particular artwork is a reminder of her home on the Tiwi Islands, being out on her father’s side country, on Jessie River when they used to go out fishing & hunting in the early mornings.
