Coffee Tables

A coffee table earns its keep more than almost anything else in a living room (drinks, laptops, feet, the odd board game), and with 350+ to choose from, the decision that matters most is its scale against your sofa. Choose length and height relative to your seating first, and then consider what style to opt for.

Sizing a coffee table to your room

Coffee tables in our range are typically around 33 cm high and up, with lengths from about 80cm up to 120cm and widths from 60cm to 80cm for standard rectangular designs. Round coffee tables are also common, which suit smaller rooms or offer a softer look next to a sectional sofa. Getting the height roughly level with, or a little lower than, your sofa seat is the main comfort factor, more so than length or width. If you're working with a smaller living room, a nesting set (two or three tables that stack or nestle inside one another) gives you the option to pull out a second surface only when you need it.

Once the coffee table's sorted, our TV units range is the next piece most people size against it.

Round, oval and rectangular coffee table shapes

Round, oval and rectangular shapes are all represented across our range, so shape is as much a styling decision as a practical one once you've settled on the right footprint for your room. A round or oval table softens a room with sharp-edged furniture nearby, while a rectangular table generally makes better use of a long, narrow sofa's length.

Light wood, white and black, and medium wood tones cover most of the colour spread between the shapes above, so colour rarely limits which shape is available. Pink marble and other colourful tabletops do appear in smaller numbers if you want the coffee table to be the focal piece in the room rather than a background item.

Coffee table materials & finishes in our range

Manufactured wood and MDF or particleboard frames are a popular choice for our coffee tables, valued for being lighter to move and more resistant to warping and humidity than solid timber, often finished with a timber veneer or marble-look top for a smooth, uniform surface. Marble and mango wood and oak wood are available too, if a natural stone or solid timber look is what you're after. Nesting table sets are a great choice if space is limited, giving you flexible extra surface area without a second full-size table.

If you need more storage or display space alongside your coffee table, our side and end tables range covers smaller companion pieces.

Frequently asked questions

How many coffee tables does Temple & Webster stock?

We carry 350+ coffee tables across a range of materials and shapes. That includes manufactured wood designs alongside marble and solid timber pieces with multiple colours and finishes to choose from.

What's a typical coffee table height?

Most coffee tables in our range sit between 33cm and 50cm high, with most around the 40cm height. That's designed to sit roughly level with or slightly below a standard sofa seat.

Are nesting coffee tables a good option for small spaces?

Yes, nesting sets give you two or three tables in the footprint of one or one-and-a-half when they're stacked together. You can pull the smaller table out separately when you need extra surface area.

What materials are most common in Temple & Webster coffee tables?

Manufactured wood, MDF and particleboard frames make up much of our range, valued for being lighter to move and more resistant to warping than solid timber, often finished in a timber veneer or marble-look laminate. Solid timber options like mango wood are also available, alongside genuine marble tops.

Should my coffee table match my dining table?

They don't need to match exactly, but keeping the timber tone or overall style similar usually reads better across an open-plan space.
