This chair was not really as I expected . Despite the shape & construction method used following the classic pattern, the finish was appalling. The arms, where one rests one 's arms , were rough and revealed scraper marks along their entire lengths to the floor. They had not been sanded, and the gloss finish applied was only on the top surface of the canes and didn't extend to the underneath of the canes. The binding split canes around joins were not 100% secure, obviously hastily applied and have TACK heads showing in several places , on face surfaces, including the arms. I really believe your Lowell brand is definitely a low grade cheap manufacturer. The quality is nowhere near other cane furniture I have. I'm an elderly pensioner and can't be bothered. Fortunately I have sewing & upholstery skills so can apply some sort of light padding on the arms, which is a pity because it's not usual on this style of chair, and not very attractive to look at. My only positive comment is that the chair was very well packed, proving the roughly finished arms were not damaged in transit, but surely in the manufacturing process.
