In Tiwi language, Jilamara means design. The designs are originally drawn from the body painting which accompanied the Pukumani (funeral) & Kulama (initiation/yam) ceremonies, clan totems & Tiwi creation stories. The Jilamara (design) is used for body painting to protect from Mapurtiti (spirits of the dead). The Tiwi palette of red, yellow, white & black is made from natural ochre pigments sourced from the land.

Reviews
It is highly unusual to find a print like this - Tiwi body art - and it is absolutely beautiful. Pairs super well with ochre/mustard, forest green and a bit of deeper red like you find in Australia's outback. T & W did a fabulous job of preparing it for safe transport and it arrived safely. Super, super happy.
Amazing . Just what I hoped. I will be painting my room this week and then see how it all pulls together.
