Why choose a genuine leather armchair?

If you're seeking long-lasting comfort and effortless elegance, a genuine leather armchair is a worthy investment. Unlike synthetic materials, real leather breathes and adapts to your environment, staying cool in summer and cosy in winter. It can also naturally resist spills and wear, making it a practical option for busy households or frequent entertaining. A leather armchair recliner adds another layer of luxury, offering supportive comfort for movie nights, reading sessions or well-earned relaxation after a long day. If you love the look but prefer an alternative finish, we also offer a wide selection of faux leather armchairs and fabric armchairs, each with their own unique charm.

Key features and considerations when buying a genuine leather armchair

When choosing your perfect leather armchair, think about where it will live and how it will be used. If it's going to be your go-to reading chair or a statement piece in your lounge, consider features like high back support, deep cushioning and solid armrests. For added function, a leather armchair recliner is ideal for creating a cosy corner or a mini retreat within your home. You’ll also want to consider the type of leather. Full-grain offers unmatched quality and texture, while top-grain gives a smooth, consistent finish that’s easy to care for. Colour is another factor. Classic browns and deep charcoals add warmth and heritage appeal, while black or white leather brings a more modern, polished look. Care and maintenance to keep your leather armchair stately and clean for a long time

Genuine leather armchairs are surprisingly easy to care for. Regular dusting with a soft cloth and the occasional wipe with a damp (not wet) cloth will keep the surface clean and supple. It’s important to avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the leather’s natural finish. To keep your chair looking its best, condition the leather every 6 to 12 months using a leather conditioner recommended by the manufacturer. This helps maintain its softness and prevents cracking over time. Keep your armchair out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to avoid premature fading or drying out. With the right care, your leather chair will continue to add beauty and comfort to your home for many years.

FAQ

Is genuine leather really worth the investment?

Yes, it is if you’re looking for long term durability and comfort and are willing to put in a little more maintenance. Genuine leather is incredibly durable, ages beautifully and offers comfort that improves over time, making it a long-term investment in both quality and style.

Do leather armchairs require a lot of maintenance?

Not at all. A light regular clean and occasional conditioning will keep your chair in excellent shape. Leather can be lower maintenance than many fabric options. Regular cleaning will keep leather in good condition, and a good conditioning and leather treatment a couple of times a year will keep it in fantastic condition for a long time.

Are leather armchair recliners comfortable for everyday use?

Absolutely. Leather armchair recliners offer both support and luxury, making them ideal for daily relaxation, reading or watching TV. Leather also adjusts over time, becoming more comfortable while developing a natural patina and a shape moulded to you.

What’s the difference between genuine leather and faux leather?

Genuine leather is made from natural animal hide and is highly durable and breathable. Faux leather is a synthetic alternative that mimics the look of leather and may be more affordable, but it doesn’t age the same way or offer the same tactile experience. That said, the newest iterations of polyurethane leather are very convincing, and great if you’re on a strict budget.
