The Maria Watson-Trudgett Collection

Maria Watson-Trudgett is a Wiradyuri artist of ‘freshwater Country’ whose work captures the essence of her Aboriginal culture, family, and ancestral landscape.

Her work is a contemporary fusion of abstract art and ancient iconography, often featuring flowing lines and symbols, mimicking traditional sand-drawing techniques and the way her ancestors drew impressions into the ground to share knowledge. Her art serves as a visual map of the river systems, kinship connections, the landscape of her upbringing.

Deeply inspired by her connection to Country, Maria’s artworks also feature symbols of meeting places, community, flora, and animal tracks, reflecting the identity of the Wiradyuri culture.
