Rue - the eclectic teen bedroom

Rue Bennet is going through it, and honestly, you can tell by the state of her room. Beneath the empty food wrappers and mountains of clothes though is an eclectic mix of objects and colours that captures exactly who Rue is: goofy, full of fun and a bit erratic. Both a reflection on her personality and the financial struggles her family has faced as a result of her dad's medical bills, a lot of her items look like they were picked up at thrift shops or yard sales, but she makes them work for her. Rue's room is her escape from reality, and why wouldn't you want to be surrounded by quirky things to take your mind off the everyday pain of addiction?

Jules - the elegant & feminine teen bedroom

Throughout season one, we get Jules's backstory and journey through transitioning, and we see her bedroom as a reflection of her finally feeling comfortable in herself as a trans woman. There are a lot of feminine aspects in the furniture detailing and colour choices, but her individual experience with gender comes through in the art and decor she displays. As the series moves into season two, Jules is questioning the gender binary and whether she needs to fit in any one category, and she embraces some of her masculinity - particularly through her clothing.

Nate - the black & white teen bedroom

If we know anything about Nate, it's that he keeps a lot of secrets and likes to keep his cards close to his chest. It's no surprise then that his bedroom is a bit of a blank slate, but still moody because you know he's got some demons, and if we're honest, a bit intimidating. Decor is irrelevant to him; if he can't lift it to keep in shape, it's a waste of space in his mind.

Cassie - the quirky plush teen bedroom

Oh Cassie, what are we going to do with you? If there's ever been a young woman more confused about her sense of self and self-worth, we haven't found her yet. She might share a room with her sister, but Cassie's myriad of images of beautiful women and collection of self-care items (you know we spotted the silk pillowcases) shows us just how unsure she is of herself and her image. It's ok Cass, just hide under your fluffy blankets, it'll all be alright … we hope.
