Reading nooks for different readers
This World Book Day, discover how to set up cosy spots for all the readers in your home, whatever their age, lifestyle or choice of book.

If your kids have outgrown tents and cubby houses, go for a kids beanbag or lounge beanbag instead. A bright tub chair, swivel armchair or hammock chair are also perfect for little bodies to curl up in.

If you fancy making your reading nook more of a feature, consider adding a bench to a corner. It's also a great way to bring life to awkward empty spaces. Add two backless benches for an L-shaped sitting area, so you can lean your back against the wall and put your feet up. Add a rug to demarcate the spot and bring warmth to the space, position a side table for your drinks and stack of reading material, and consider a floor lamp or wall light for a soft glow when required.

Reading nooks for baby-bonding
Not only does reading benefit the development of your baby's brain, but it's also a lovely bonding experience to introduce to you and your baby's daily routine. While holding a board book in one hand and your baby in another, you'll need the support of a wide, deep armchair with generous armrests. Rocking chairs are also ideal for lulling babies to sleep, and wingback rocking chairs are especially comfortable, giving you a chance to rest your head too. Set up the chair in a corner of the nursery or your own bedroom. Add a side table with a small, simple table lamp that's easy to access, and don't forget a couple of cushions to prop up your arm and support your back, and a blanket to keep you both warm and snuggly.
Reading nooks for young readers
Create a cocoon-like retreat for your little ones to enjoy some quiet time with their favourite picture books. Line the floor of a teepee or play house with a fluffy sheepskin rug, throw in a few colourful cushions, and string up some fairy lights to make a magical hideaway. Keep a kids sling bookshelf or display kids bookcase nearby, so they can find and store their books easily.

Reading nooks for readers who like to lie down
If you have a lanky teenager or if you yourself like to lie down with a paperback, then consider a daybed to sprawl across. Position it under a window sill within your living room or on your verandah for natural light and garden views. Add lots of cushions and consider a tray for resting your mug, reading glasses and a scented candle.Reading nooks for readers who like their feet up
Many of us like to put our feet up when we read, while still remaining upright. It's probably also the easiest way to tackle a hardback or epic novel. This calls for a more conventional setup including a comfortable armchair and footstool. Upholstered wingback armchairs are fantastic for their roominess, sturdy support and enveloping shape. Consider a round storage ottoman to rest your feet, but to also provide a handy place for extra throws, blankets and cushions.
