Super stylist and founder of The School Megan Morton shares her tips for switching her house to winter mode, from music to moody candlelight.
I am someone who really prefers summer, so I make some deliberate effort around making sure the time inside is as bearable and as beautiful as possible. I really think music is underestimated as a mood-setter come the colder months. If your ears feel warm, this is the way to achieving home hibernation happiness.
My house has its winter clothes (I swap out different towels, some rugs and window treatments) as well as having a deliberate 'winter' playlist. It can really change your whole experience.
I also love candlelight. These beeswax chalices and candles made by events creative director Tony Assness are the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Hand in hand with music, this is heaven to me.
I also love a layered bed no matter what time of year - I just go heavier and heavier come winter, and pile it on until no heater is needed. I also insist on every bed in my house having a linen covered wheat heat pack Nicer than a plastic hot water bottle (even when covered), it really does keep things toasty in there.
Swap out for your own favourite candles and playlist and enjoy the peace, the cold and some ear joy!

Megan loves candelight to set a winter mood. Even better if they're beeswax beauties like these from Tony Assness. Photo – Aimee Thompson.
